Many of you may know me as the creator of BuzzingBOTS. Over 20 years later, I still believe BuzzingBOTS needs to exist. If it can’t live on as a retail brand, it can exist as a voice in the world, standing by young hearts. This is why I continue to build BuzzingBOTS through Kawaii Classrooms.
As a former content creator, I now teach as a public school teacher. I reach Gen Alpha students where it matters most—every day in the classroom.
As a public school teacher, I encourage my students to keep questioning what they see and read. I want them to keep asking themselves, "Why?"
My fifth graders read about different opinions on cultivating natural resources, like the U.S. cash crop corn. I guide them to form their own thoughts and opinions on the subject, and keep asking, "Why should we care?" or "Why does this thinking matter?"
One student once pointed out that the curriculum is over 10 years old and thought the ideas were outdated. We sat with this observation for a moment. While the content might have been outdated, the skill of thinking critically about it was something far more valuable. This was an "aha" moment for me as a teacher.
In today’s world, we need to offer young people a safe space to wonder. We need them to question the content they see and gain the skills they need to uncover the truth.
Reflecting on my journey, I launched BuzzingBOTS to reach young people and create something meaningful. Now, whether through content creation, teaching, or any role I take on, I’ve realized: if we want to reach Gen Alpha, we have to make them care. And we do that by making them wonder.
So today, I am here to say: keep Gen Alpha curious. Celebrate their questions, even the tough ones. If you don’t know the answer, wonder along with them!
